WHAT HAPPENS IF I'M RUNNING LATE?

I will hold the time I have reserved for you, but we will end at your same scheduled time.

DISSPELLING THE MYTHS OF THERAPY

Beginning therapy can be anxiety-provoking for some people. It is understandable that you might be nervous and apprehensive about the process. It is important to dispel the myth that going to counseling is for weak people who can’t solve their own problems. Quite the contrary, the strongest and most intelligent people go to therapy. Why? Because if you have the opportunity to learn the best ways to communicate with your spouse, raise your children and have a successful career - wouldn’t you take it?

MY BAND ISN'T SURE ABOUT THE IDEA OF THERAPY

If your band or writing partner feels nervous about the process please encourage them to address these feelings when we meet. It is normal to feel anxiety before your first session. Therapy only works when all parties are invested in the process. Many people believe that attending group counseling means that the band is headed towards a breakup, which is a myth. Did you know that healthy conflict is necessary for a relationship to have longevity? Avoiding conflict is the number one reason that relationships don't work out. Communication is the most powerful tool you can have.

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT AT MY FIRST APPOINTMENT?

Your first appointment will be an intake, like an informal interview. I will collect information about your personal history, therapeutic goals and answer your questions regarding the therapeutic process. Together we will create a treatment plan. Our second session will be actual therapy. If you are coming to group counseling, after the band's intake, I will conduct individual intakes with each person and then start actual band counseling.

HOW LONG WILL THERAPY LAST?

This depends entirely on the individual and the issues he/she would like to work through. Therapy can last from three months to many years.
